Saving an HTML Document

Back to Introduction to Nvu Home

Choose File > Save.

2. The Page Title dialog box will appear. You will see this dialog box if you have not already set the page title from within the Format > Page Title and Properties... option. The page title of your webpage is what appears in the browser window's title bar (see example below). Also, the title of a webpage is used to identify the page in the browser's bookmarks or favorites listing.

Your page title should be short and descriptive, explaining what the page is about.

The Save Page As dialog box will appear. By default, Nvu will use your page title as your file name. DO NOT ALLOW THIS. When you save your documents, avoid using spaces and special characters in file and folder names whenever possible. In particular, do not use special characters or punctuation in the names of files; many servers change these characters during upload, which will cause any links to the files to break. Also, do not begin a file name with a numeral.

Provide a name for the file and use the Save in: list to navigate to where you want the file to be saved.

Click the Save button.

A Word About Saving Changes to an Existing HTML Document

If you need to edit an existing HTML document, make sure you do not change the file name when you save your content changes. If you have made links to the page you are editing, the links will break if file names have been changed.
