Searching for articles in the core nursing journals
Nursing faculty at DCCC have identified four core journals that should be the starting point for your search. These journals are American Journal of Nursing, MedSurg Nursing, Nursing, and RN. Below are instructions for searching for articles in these journals.
Searching for Articles in American Journal of Nursing, MedSurg Nursing, and Nursing
American Journal of Nursing, MedSurg Nursing, and Nursing are accessed through Ebsco. When searching for articles, be sure to enter the title of the journal you wish to search.
  1. Go to the database login page
    (you will need the password)
  2. Click Ebsco CINAHL under the Nursing category heading.
  3. Select Advanced search.
  4. Enter the journal title (American Journal of Nursing, Nursing, or MedSurg Nursing) in the "Find" box
  5. Use the pull down menu and select "SO Publication Name".
  6. Enter your disease in the second box.
  7. Use the pull down menu and select "MJ Word in Major Subject Heading".
  8. Click "Search"

American Journal of Nursing articles are available in hard copy only. The journal is available in the periodicals section of the DCCC library, through intralibrary loan at off-campus locations, and often in your hospital's library.

Searching for Articles in RN
  1. Go to the database login page
    (you will need the password)
  2. Click Wilson OmniFile Full Text Select under the General Research category heading.
  3. Enter "RN" in "Search For" box.
  4. Use drop down menu to change "Keyword" to "Journal Name."
  5. Enter your disease or condition in the second box.
  6. Use the drop down menu to change the "Keyword" to "Subject."
  7. Click "Start".
