About the Periodicals Databases
Periodicals databases allow users to search for journal articles. DCCC students have several available to them both on campus and online. The three databases described the primary ones used by nursing students. Keep in mind that no one source or database is perfect; you may need to consult several sources to complete your paper.
CINAHL
CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) indexes articles from more than 1000 journals and magazines. The licensing agreement permits only one user at a time. Although this database is specifically for Nurses, there are also some titles for consumers such as Time and US News & World Report. Do not use these general magazines for your research. Many, but not all, of the articles in this database are full text. Some of your retrieved results will only be the citation (journal name, pages, author, and title of article) without the full text. If you need one that does not show the entire text, you would use the online interlibrary loan form to obtain the entire article from another library.
Ebsco
Ebsco Academic Search Premier has many subjects, including nursing. Many, but not all, of the articles in this database are full text. Some of your retrieved results will only be the citation (journal name, pages, author, title of article) without the full text. In this case you would use the online interlibrary loan form to obtain the entire article from another library.
Wilson
Wilson indexes articles from many disciplines including nursing titles like RN. All of the articles in this database are full text.
